Walk the 4 day, 3 night, Gidjuum Gulganyi Walk independently, with a light day pack, proper meals, camps already set up, and all the freedom of a self-guided adventure.
You walk the 42 kilometres of the Old People's Track at your own pace, in your own company, stopping where you like for as long as you like. We drive your gear to each of the three campgrounds, set up your tent on the platform, and leave your food, your cooker and your esky waiting for you. You arrive, drop your day pack, and put the kettle on.
Four days, three nights, from Mount Jerusalem National Park through Whian Whian, and Nightcap to the top of Minyon Falls. No guide walking beside you. No heavy pack on your back. No freeze dried meals.
Before you go. Book our Gidjuum Gulganyi Self Guided - Pack Free option. No need to book a campsite, we do that for you. Book your return transport. Bring your own sleeping bag, pillow etc or you can hire them from us.
Day 1. Catch the shuttle to the Manns rd, trail head. Hand over your bags to the logistics team. Bring your own lunch for this first day.
Each morning. Breakfast, make your lunch, pack your day pack, leave your bag in your tent, and go. We move everything to the next camp while you walk.
Day 4. You finish at Minyon Falls Lookout or Minyon Grass. Catch the shuttle back to town.
Real food, not freeze dried. You cook it yourself, which takes about fifteen minutes and mostly involves stirring.
Breakfast × 3 — sourdough, butter, jams, muesli, yoghurt, milk, tea and coffee. (No breakfast day 1 — eat before we collect you.)
Lunch × 4 — tortillas with chicken, ham, cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayo. (BYO lunch day 1.)

Dinner × 3 — choose three from:
More dishes are being added. Tell us about any dietary requirements when you book and we'll sort it.
This is camping, not glamping. If you want the deep mattress, the hot shower and the chef prepared meals, that's our guided Glamping Walk — different trip, different price.
Here's what you bring:
And there are no showers on this track. Three days without one. Most people find it bothers them far less than they expected.
FYI Fires are not permitted and the winter nights up on the Nightcap Range get colder than people expect.
Be honest with yourself here, because there's no guide to lean on.
This walk suits you if:
Book the guided walk instead if:
This is a Grade 4 track: steep, rough underfoot, plenty of steps, and remote. Phone reception is patchy at best. We strongly recommend hiring a beacon or an inReach if you don't own one.
Minimum 4 - Max 12
We need four walkers to run a departure. That doesn't mean you have to bring four people. Book as a solo walker, a couple, or a group of three, and we'll place others at camp with you. It only means a date won't go ahead until at least four places are filled — we'll tell you where a departure stands when you book, and confirm the moment it's locked in.
Camping with people you don't know? Here's what that actually looks like. You get your own tent. What you share is the camp kitchen — the cooker, the esky, the table. On the track you'll barely see each other: everyone leaves when they like and walks their own pace. It's usually the shared cuppa at the end of the day that people end up remembering.
Groups of six or more get a group discount.
Best walking is spring (September to November) and autumn (March to May). Summer is hot and wet; winter is cold at elevation but often clear and beautiful. If our dates don't suit you, contact us and we will try and get the dates you want.
We run the shuttle service and teh guided walk on this track, which means we're on these roads most weeks and we know exactly what the access is doing after rain. We're a Byron-based ecotourism operator, founded and run by an environmental scientist, and we hold six sustainability certifications including Advanced Ecotourism.
We also pick up other people's rubbish, refill and re-hire gas canisters instead of binning them, and sort every scrap of waste that comes off the track. It's your walk — we'd just like the forest to be there for the next lot.
