We are a locally owned, award-winning eco-tour company based in Byron Bay. Our small-group tours are led by local experts with backgrounds in environmental science and/or local Indigenous culture. We don’t just point at an animal and move on. We help you understand the wildlife, habitats, history and culture that make the Byron Bay region so special. We hold Advanced Ecotourism, Respecting Our Culture and Climate Action Business accreditation.
Absolutely. Our tours are a great way to get beyond the beaches and discover the wildlife, rainforest, waterfalls, villages and stories of Byron Bay and the surrounding hinterland. We offer everything from short wildlife encounters and sightseeing tours to full-day adventures and multi-day hiking experiences.
We specialise in small-group experiences. Most of our day tours operate with a minimum of two guests and a maximum of around 10 guests, although group sizes vary between tours. Keeping groups small gives us more time with each guest and helps us minimise our impact on wildlife and the places we visit.
You can book online through the booking buttons on our website. You can also contact us by telephone or visit our Byron Bay booking office. Our booking office is located at:1/8 Wollongbar Street, Byron Bay NSW 2481. The office is generally open Monday to Friday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm but its better to ring ahead, just in case we're out enjoying nature.
Yes. Our tours have limited places and some operate only on selected days. Booking ahead gives you the best chance of securing your preferred tour and date. Last-minute bookings may be possible, so contact us if the online system shows limited availability.
Most scheduled tours require at least two guests to operate. If the minimum number is not reached, we may offer you another date, an alternative experience or a full refund.
Yes. We can arrange private and customised experiences for couples, families, friendship groups, schools, corporate groups and travellers with particular interests. Tell us what you would love to see, how much time you have and the needs of your group, and we will see what we can put together. Or you can do one of our standard tours and pay a private rate.
Gift vouchers may be available for many of our experiences. Contact us if you would like help choosing the right tour or arranging a voucher for someone special.
Return transport is included with most of our tours. Transport arrangements vary, particularly for shuttle services, cultural experiences and private tours, so please check the individual tour page when booking.
Pickup areas depend on the tour. Most tours include pickups from accommodation in Byron. Some wildlife tours can also collect guests from Ballina Shire or Lismore. Your exact pickup time and location will be confirmed after booking. You can meet at our office and we can depart for your tour from there. The shuttle services have fixed pickup places and times.
Not for tours that include return transport. We can collect you from an agreed pickup point and return you after the tour. Some experiences have different meeting arrangements, so check your booking confirmation carefully.
No. Our wildlife tours focus on observing native animals living freely in their natural habitats. That means the experience is genuine, but nature always has the final say. Animals do not read our itinerary—and frankly, they would ignore it if they did.We never allow guests to feed or touch wildlife, and we work hard to observe animals without disturbing them.
Guarantees depend on the tour. On our Koala Tour, we guarantee that you will see wild koalas. On our Wildlife Safari, we visit several habitats and aim to see koalas, kangaroos, flying foxes and a wide variety of birds. Platypus sightings cannot be guaranteed, but if we do not see a platypus during your Platypus Walk, you can join us again on another available day free of charge. Sightings on the Night Vision Walk cannot be guaranteed because we are observing completely wild animals.
No. We observe wildlife respectfully from an appropriate distance. Feeding or touching wild animals can alter their natural behaviour, affect their health and place both animals and people at risk. Our goal is to watch wildlife behaving naturally—not turn the bush into a petting zoo.
Dark or neutral clothing helps us blend into the environment and draw less attention to ourselves while looking for wildlife.Bright clothing is not forbidden, but darker clothing can improve the experience, particularly on wildlife and night tours.
Yes, you are welcome to take photographs, provided it does not disturb the wildlife or other guests. You will not be able to take photos on the Night Vision Walk - we use an infrared camera and can take photos with our thermal device, which we will share with you after your tour. Photographs taken by your guide may also be made available after selected tours either on social media or we can Whatsapp the photos upon request.
This is a four-day, three-night guided walk through 48 kilometres of rainforest, eucalypt forest, waterfalls and mountain lookouts in the Tweed Byron Hinterland.
We run a guided glamping experince and the daily shuttle service.
The Gidjuum Gulganyi Walk is a Grade 4, multi-day hike with steep sections, stairs, creek crossings and significant changes in elevation. A resonable level of fitness and some previous bushwalking experience are recommended. Day two is the biggest challenge, covering approximately 16 kilometres and generally taking seven to nine hours. It is a magnificent walk, but it is definitely not a gentle wander.
The three National Parks campgrounds have non-flush toilets, rainwater tanks, picnic tables, shelters and hardwood tent platforms. For guests on our Guided Hiking and Glamping Experience, we provide portable hot showers each evening. We also set up your spacious tent, which is tall enough to stand in, along with raised beds, large sleeping bags, sleeping bag liners, extra blankets, fluffy pillows and hot water bottles during the cooler months. Independent hikers need to carry and set up their own camping equipment—and may have to embrace the wilderness lifestyle with a quick wash in a creek where appropriate.
No. The fire safety assessment prohibits open fires at all times of the year. However, guests on our Guided Hiking and Glamping Experience can still stay warm and cosy, as we provide portable gas heaters at camp.
You will meet our logistics team at the start of the walk when you hand over your main bag. After that, we call them our “elves.” While you are hiking, they travel into the campgrounds via the fire trails with all the equipment, set up your tents, beds, showers and camp facilities, then quietly disappear before you arrive. You simply walk into a fully prepared camp—almost like magic, although there is a fair bit of hard work happening behind the scenes.
For most tours, we recommend:
• Comfortable, covered walking shoes
• Comfortable outdoor clothing
• A hat
• A jacket or rain layer, depending on the weather
• Dark or neutral clothing for wildlife tours
• More challenging hikes may require sturdier footwear and additional equipment.
Check the information provided for your particular tour.
Please bring a reusable water bottle. Depending on the tour, you may also need sunscreen, a hat, rain protection, a swimming costume and a towel. We provide filtered-water refills on many of our tours rather than supplying single-use plastic water bottles. And we supply insect repellent when required.
Many tours include refreshments such as morning tea, picnic breakfast, picnic lunch, afternoon tea, hot chocolate or locally made treats. Inclusions vary, so check the individual tour description before booking. Please tell us about dietary requirements when you book. We can cater for many needs, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free diets, when we receive advance notice.
Many of our tours are suitable for children, but minimum ages vary. Several wildlife and sightseeing tours are listed for children aged five and over. More demanding experiences, including the Night Vision Walk and Minyon Falls Walk, are generally listed for ages 10 and over. Wildlife watching sometimes involves remaining quiet, patient and still, so please consider your child’s interests and comfort when choosing a tour.
Child and booster seats may be available when requested in advance. Please tell us the ages of the children in your group when booking so we can confirm the appropriate arrangements.
Family and child pricing may be available on selected tours. Check the booking page or contact us for assistance before booking.
We do our best to make our tours accessible to people with different ages, backgrounds and abilities. Many tours can be adapted for guests with mobility difficulties. Our usual vehicles are not fitted with wheelchair carriers, but in some circumstances we can hire a suitable vehicle or work with the vehicle in which you are travelling. Please contact us before booking so we can have an honest conversation about the terrain, transport and facilities involved.
Yes. We accept registered Companion Cards, on most of our tours, but not teh shtuttle services allowing an accompanying support person to attend free of charge. Please advise us when booking and bring the relevant documentation with you.
Registered assistance dogs can be accommodated on most tours when the appropriate documentation is provided. However, an assistance dog may not be suitable for every wildlife location or activity. Please contact us before booking so we can discuss the safest and most appropriate option.
Please tell us before the tour. This includes mobility limitations, allergies, dietary requirements, hearing or vision needs and any condition that may affect your participation. The Night Vision Walk is not recommended for people with epilepsy because of the night-vision equipment used.
Light rain does not necessarily stop a tour. Rain can be part of experiencing a subtropical environment, and wildlife sometimes becomes more active in changing conditions. However, we may alter, postpone or cancel a tour if weather, flooding, track conditions, park closures or other circumstances make it unsafe or unsuitable. Weather forecasts are not entirely reliable. If there is rain on the forecast, when we confirm with you the day before, we will say "weather permitting" on the morning of the tour we will look at the rain radar, to work out where the rain is falling.
If we cancel a tour, you will be offered a full refund or the opportunity to move your booking to another available date.
On all and transfers except for the Gidjuum Gulganyi Hiking & Glamping Experience, cancellations made more than 24 hours before the scheduled tour time are eligible for a full refund. Cancellations within 24 hours may receive a partial refund or no refund, depending on the circumstances. Guests who do not attend without notifying us are not eligible for a refund. If illness or injury prevents you from attending, contact us as soon as possible so we can discuss rescheduling or refund options.

• 14 to 30 days before departure: 50% refund of the total trip cost.

Your booking helps us support local conservation and habitat-restoration projects. We contribute to koala organisations, participate in local tree planting, minimise single-use plastics, use reusable catering equipment, compost food waste and prioritise local and ethical suppliers. On our Koala Tours, we monitor the population, and we make a contribution to a relevant koala conservation organisation for each guest.
We keep groups small, stay on recognised tracks, observe park closures, avoid feeding or touching wildlife and use binoculars, infrared equipment and night-vision technology to maintain an appropriate distance. We use hybrid vehicles when practical, operate our home and office with renewable energy and aim to reduce plastics and waste throughout our tours.
We undertook a detailed emissions assessment with Carbon Halo:
Total emissions: 20 tonnes CO₂Scope 1 (direct fuel use): 9 tonnes CO₂
Scope 3 (commuting, business travel, waste): 11 tonnes CO₂
When you combine it with our tree planting offsets our net position in 2025-26 was -6.2 tonnes CO2, which makes us net carbon negative.
